That link doesn't explain how it does it and doesn't show an example of what it does, so it looks to me like other services available which link to the top of the hardcopy page. That can easily be 15 or 20 Kindle pages away from the real target, and gives exactly the same features as the Kindle "Real Page Numbers".
To be useful it would need to link to the exact location on the page and that information is not stored in the hardcopy index, so would need to be added. Usually that information is only available if the original indexer created an embedded index or if the book is reindexed (which is not an automatic procedure).

The very same indexes used in hard copy of a book to locate where the indexed items can be found in the book can now also be used in the Kindle version to locate where these items can be found in the Kindle version.

Scholars will now have just as much information available to them in the Kindle version as they have available in the hard copy. This a vast improvement for Kindle readers and especially for scholars.

There is also the question of ranges: if the beginning of printed page 17 is converted to Kindle page 98 and the beginning of printed page 21 is converted to Kindle page 124, then the original index entry for pages 17-21 will presumably appear as Kindle pages 98-124, but not only may the discussion not start until Kindle page 100, it may continue to Kindle page 130. Imagine the horror if an index in a printed book directed the reader to pages 98-124 when it should have been 100-130!

That is very interesting. I use a script blocker, which initially blocks Librarything, but I guess anyone using these blockers is used to websites having blanks sometimes and having to bypass them temporarily. I use both, in different places on my own website, Librarything here booksindexed and Amazon here diyresources. Also, of course, not all books have interesting covers, so you probably want to choose which you want to display.

I am intrigued by this idea, but I wonder what the impact will be for those who use an adblocker. I use one, and reading your blog just then, LibraryThing came up, but not the Amazon adverts. There was just a blank space - they only appeared once I switched my adblocker off. Of course I realised they were there from the text, but for any other users with an adblocker, they won't appear, which might make your website look bare.
As I've only been in business since December, my list of completed books is still quite short, so I've not yet put them on my website, but I do intend to do so before the end of the year. I will be giving this some more thought...

Glad you found the articles helpful. I have a couple of posts related to backups but the best solution will depend on your exact situation. Cloud backups, such as Mozy or Carbonite, are good but if you live somewhere remote with slow internet connection then you would be better off using your own local backup. The key thing is that backup is useless if you don't do it, so it is best to have it fully automatic, and also useless if it doesn't work, so you must try actually recovering some files to prove that you can.

Thanks for all the good information available on this blog! As I am setting up my own freelance business, I was particularly glad to see the risk assessment article--but this one as well is a huge help with something that I had been wondering about for my website.

I've not read everything here, so I'm wondering if you'd have suggestions on how to handle backup...external hard drive, online, et cetera?
